Do I need a referral letter to see a nephrologist?

Should I come fasting for my consultation?
Fasting is not usually needed for the consultation itself. If you expect to have certain blood tests done on the same day, such as fasting sugar or lipids, you may be advised to fast. Please check when booking.
Does a high creatinine always mean kidney failure?
No. Creatinine can rise for many reasons, including dehydration, some medicines, or a temporary illness. It needs to be interpreted along with eGFR, urine tests and your overall health. A nephrologist can help work out the cause and its significance.
How often will I need follow-up visits?
